If you read a chapter of the Bible you might be reading anything from a few hours to a few years. The Bible timeline is not an easy thing to always perceive. And neither is the timeline of our lives.

Life has seasons, days, chapters and books. I know there are some portions of my life I want to close the book on. Just as there are seasons I wish would never end. But time and my life move on. One section at a time, each related and yet each having its own emphasis. Life is made up of parts, connections, relationships, and conclusions.

All that to say that you can’t rightly judge the Bible or your life from one or a few chapters. You can read all the prophets in the Bible and come away with only a part of what God is desiring to communicate. You can look at your job and your family life and have only a part of all that is needed to truly understand your purpose.

And your life, the Bible, and all good books aren’t over till they are over. It is the final resolution, the actions we take when we knew as much as we could know, that are just as important as our childhood or youth. In our story, the abuse that a child suffered might be redeemed tenfold by the act of restoring another at eighty. Of the life of drugs and self-indulgence might be made beautiful through long-suffering and listening to a grandchild or great-grandchild.

I want you to consider being more Christlike in your evaluations. Look for a bigger picture than what you did last night or last year. Look at your heart and actions and see what you are learning as well as what you are producing. And allow the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth. Resist focusing on just a few scriptures or things and let God teach, correct and train you.

The person who has succeeded in life to this point has the same option as the person who has totally failed. Both are to keep living. Neither one can say the past is their future. Life and especially the life of those whom people are praying for, just doesn’t go that way.

Final point, that is why a true discernment of your life does not depend on outward conditions. Money, health, education, popularity, privilege, persecution, and all those important yet deceptive identifiers are not how you best judge your life. The best way to evaluate is to get a wise, eternal evaluation of an emotionally healthy being who knows you so well because He lives with you.
