Jesus Teaches on Happiness

Image
Jesus teaches on happiness When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in th...

Refreshing

Image
Refresh How do you start a new season in life? How do you become refreshed? What can we do to have a better life? Starting a new season of life depends on where the new season is coming from. Knowing the boundaries and barriers will help us be successful. Refreshing is like a great cup of coffee or an ice cold glass of water on a hot summer day, it is good. But that goodness comes from somewhere and needs to be consumed in order for refreshing to occur. For me, understanding what is going on is a huge part in my ability to deal with things. I’m an introvert, so the energy I use to go through life come from within me. I find God in me as the source for hope, peace and new beginnings. You may be an extrovert, so you draw on the energy of others and external activities to motivate you. Either way, we all need seasons of refreshing. Spoiler Alert Some people simply want refreshing to come, to appear one morning like a freshly brewed cup of coffee sitting within reach of ...

Coping with unplanned change

This post is from a work done in preparing for a season of prayer focused on change, transition and closure. The section below is on Unplanned Change, What  I call Thing 1. Thing 2 is planned changed. For context this section is from the chapter on Perspective and Plan. What you don't see here is help with Thing 2, Stewardship of your life, Ecclesiastics, time for everything and Insight from Exodus. A mapping, doodling worksheet is linked at the bottom of this article. Thing 1 – Unplanned Change The Bible is full of stories about people who went through unplanned change. Abraham, father of the faith, was called to move to a foreign land. Joseph was thrown into a pit and decades of unplanned events followed. Moses lived a life carried along by unplanned events. Saul became Paul in the New Testament through unforeseen events, and Peter had an unplanned encounter with God that involved a trance and the opportunity for the Gentiles to enter into the faith. Thing 1 even...

Modern Slavery

Peoria Prayer Center News Edition – Modern Slavery How do you feel when trapped? I had a memorable experience when I got stuck in a laundry shoot when I was a kid. Sliding down from the second floor into the basement, my shoot sliding skills were not developed yet and my leg exited the first floor door as I went by. My body didn’t want to continue down the shoot without my leg so it stopped, wedging me in between the first floor and basement. Every fiber of my being felt trapped. I want share with you a prolonged news story from the Christian Science Monitor about modern slavery and human trafficking. My goal is sharing these news stories is to encourage prayer for those in need – those enslaved. My goal is NOT to lay another burden on the people of prayer. I’m not interested in seeing how many hours of prayer I can get God’s people to perform. I want to provide a real story of struggle in our world and allow the Holy Spirit to lead our hearts and actions. So in th...

The Peoria Prayer Center will be hosting an encouraging and equipping time of prayer on Saturday November 14th from 8-10. In the first section we will share ideas and disciplines that you can utilize for the development of gratitude in your life. In the second section we will practice some of the prayer forms we introduced in section one. Goal: Our goal is to resource people in prayer so that they can in turn invest in themselves and others. We want to provide both practical and insightful ways to grow in gratitude and thanksgiving. Everyone should leave with tools to help them grow in gratitude. What to bring: Bring your Bible, journal and coffee mug. We will provide a Kureg with a verity of drinks and you can bring your cup and take it home with you (so we don't have dishes to do).
